Frieze New York - Death & Co, Anais Mitchell and the damage done

Went to another favourite New York cocktail bar - Death & Co opens at 6pm and you normally need to get there earlier to ensure you get in.
In the days of prohibition, it was thought that to drink alcohol was to live a life shadowed by death.

En route to the bar, we passed this dentist ....

To one side of the bar is a  rather daunting space between two buildings and on the other side a wonderful old record shop.

Brilliant doorman called Sam, who learnt all of our names, checked our ID to ensure we were over 21 and then personally seated us in the bar.

You know the cocktails are having an effect when it is concluded by all, that the chips with blue cheese and truffle oil are the best chips we've ever had ...

Stumble out onto the street into the early evening light ...

The more steak frites at Odeon in Tribecca, which we share with friend and talented musician Anais Mitchell and her musician husband, Noah - Noah and I share David Byrne as a hero, so we discuss his music and related art stories - in particular his recent week in Room for London

Noah's other job is with Counter Culture coffee - he thinks this is better than the other hot New York Coffee house, Intelligentia.

My own New York project has been to record the number of car and truck horns blasts per minute by the Canal St and W Broadway intersection - my hotel room looks over it from the 15th floor.
In rush hour, it is on average 22 beeps per minute - perhaps we should ban all horns, they are just a form of legalised abuse, a musical insult shouted at full volume - another to add to my list of when "I'm in charge".

Late to bed feeling not unlike this shop window scene

Looks fab - love the backward canvasses, the lump of molten lead & especially the dogs in heat. Couldn't you do something similar with your bits from Hammersmith Bridge? Anyway, have a great time - mine's a lox and bagel with gefilte fish, fries on the side, the whole lot easy over and a skinny latte to go.
